the myth states that Truth is embedded in Nature like a diamind is in stone. The Naturalist must carry out a complex ritual before gaining access to 'the jewels of Mother Nature'. This ritual excludes all but the 'professional' who like a monk must suffer misery (misere – loose all cards, valuables) before receiving 'understanding', alone preferably. The Naturalist hands down the findings, observations and conclusions while we, the unquestioning congregation, gaze up, mouths open, at the dioramas of Otherness
